Hunting and fishing lodge for the 1st Earl of Ellesmere, now house. Mid C19. Pebble-dashed brick and timber-framing with slate, clay tile and stone slate roofs. 3 x 4 bays with 2 storeys, a picturesque tower at one corner and single-storey accommodation around an entrance courtyard which includes stables, a gun room and a pheasantry. The lean-to roof of the entrance loggia separates the timber-framed first floor from the pebble-dashed groundfloor. Panelled double-doors with casements to either side. Bay 2 is gabled with a 3- light mullion and transom window on the first floor whereas bay 3 has a gabled eaves dormer. The tower in bay 1 forms an interesting feature; it has small oriel windows on the upper stage, coved jetties below gables on each side and a classical cupola and vane. Brick ridge chimney stacks with diagonally set shafts and blue header diaper patterns. Decorative patterns in fishscale tiles to the courtyard buildings. The rear elevation has 3 uneven gables one projecting as a wing which has a canted bay window on the ground floor with arched lights and marginal glazing bars. The left elevation has a rustic loggia under a lean-to roof; it continues round a semi-circular bay wndow. Above the bay is a stepped 3-light window with arched heads.
