SO 82 NE DEERHURST DEERHURST WALTON

3/94 Manor Farmhouse' GV II Formerly known as Walton Farm. Farmhouse. Some remains of C16 framing, substantial rebuild and refenestration in mid to late C19. English bond brickwork, some tile hanging at back, one external gable stack in limestone to gable level, raised in brick; plain tile roof. Development needs further investigation but appears to have been through passage plan with left room heated, perhaps right room heated with back lateral eaves stack; a large late C19 rear wing, right, and a lower wing to right with large external stepped lateral stack. Main front is 2 storey and attic, 3-window near-symmetrical with 4-light casement under segmental arch either side of central C20 plank door under gabled porch; at first floor 3 4-pane sashes. Wing to right replaced casements, and a small light in stack. This wing has external flight of steps on right return to a loft doorway. Gables of main block with casements to attic space. Back and T-wing various casements, some C20 steel. Interior: one framed wall flanks original through passage; room to left with g-compartment ceiling, heavy chamfered beams, room to right retains lateral fireplace in stone cheeks but later brick segmental arch; remains of curing chamber. In the attached wing with large lateral stack are 2 heavy hollow chamfered beams. Roof is propped A-frame with heavy princi- pals. First floor retains some timber framing, including left gable wall, very wide elm floor boards, at top level remains of stair with flat rail balustrade. An impor- tant survival with the adjacent early barn (q.v.)
