GILLINGHAM

TQ86SW MERESBOROUGH ROAD, Meresborough 686-1/10/82 (East side) 18/02/85 No.8 Hollytree Cottage

House. C16 or earlier, refronted early C19, SW bays refronted C20. Timber-frame with weatherboarded front and rear, brick NE corner and mid C20 S extension, large brick ridge stack, and hipped tiled roof. PLAN: possibly originally 3-room plan with inserted stack. EXTERIOR: 2 storey; 3-window range. In 2 sections, taller brick right-hand 1-window section has a C20 panelled door, canopy and horned 8/8-pane sashes. Weatherboarded left-hand timber-framed section lower with ground-floor 3-light casements and 2 first-floor 2-light casements. Large stack at junction between the two sections. Rear has a 2-storey lean-to behind the brick section. INTERIOR: not inspected but recorded as having timber members with double curved braces, ground-floor ceiling beams and joists, crown post collar beam roof with purlins and renewed rafters. Inserted C17 or earlier fireplaces with bressumers.
