6/124 Range of farmbuildings approx. 10m west of Neopardy Farmhouse

GV II

Courtyard ranges of contemporary farmbuildings. Circa 1850-60. Mostly rubble with brick dressings but south front of brick with Beer stone dressings; slate roof. 4 ranges of adjoining farmbuildings around a courtyard, comprising cider-house, apple store, granaries, stores, barn, shippon, linhays, stables, haylofts and stalls. The external wall of south range has symmetrical 4-window brick front with Beer stone dressings on same line and in same style as front of Neopardy Farmhouse (q.v.). It has chamfered Beer stone quoins each end and unglazed windows have Beer stone quoined architrave with flat heads and keystones. Roof is hipped each end. North (courtyard) facing front is rubble with brick dressings as are rest of farmbuildings. Originally balanced front with flights of granite steps to first floor doors at each end and ground floor doors close to the steps between. (Now C20 window inserted over right door). Left end is cider house with part floored apple store and includes remains of apple press. Remainder is granaries with 3 first floor compartments. 12-bay roof overall. West wing has large barn over basement shippon and rises higher than other buildings. Shippon has front arcade of 5 brick segmental-headed arches. Barn has large central door with remains of iron hoist and smaller loading door to right. A flight of stone steps rise from courtyard along right side of barn. 7-bay roof is hipped each end. Shippon has pine troughs and feeding corridor to rear. Barn has remains of roundhouse to rear. North wing comprises, from left to right; 2 three-bay, Alcock's Type T1 linhay; full height through-way with rubble walls; 2 similar 2-bay linhay; and, at right end, stables with central door, hayloft loading door over, both flanked by slatted windows with narrow band of glazing along top. Similar stables adjoin on east wing, and at right end stalls with open-fronted hayloft above. To south a wide space to south wing. All roofs have king post trusses. A complete and well-preserved farmyard of the period.
