House. C17 and early C19. Timber-framed and rendered with plain tile roof, which has 2 small hips up to rear ranges at right-angles and a T-plan stack. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic and cellar; 3-window range. 2 hipped dormers with C20 casements behind plain parapet. 1st floor has 2 sash windows with single vertical glazing bars and moulded surrounds; 2-storey segmental bow window with flat roof, sash windows with central vertical bar and intermediate pilasters. Ground floor has mid C19 doorcase with consoled hood, rectangular fanlight and door of 6 moulded panels. 2 similar sash windows to north-west of door. Rear elevation has 2 projecting gabled extensions, of 2 storeys, with hipped ends and linked by parapets concealing valleys. The south-east wing has a large, small-paned tripartite sash window over a 12-pane sash with sill at ground level. Small 12-pane sash near centre of 1st floor and 12-pane windows to attic of north-west wing. Other windows to ground and 1st floor are C20 small-paned casements. INTERIOR: the front range is timber-frame of mid C17 and of 2 large bays with quadrant-moulded and decorative lambs-tongue-stopped spine beams and bridging joist (where not boxed in). On the rear wall is a C17 stack with inglenook and chamfered jambs. Main ground-floor room is panelled with cornice. Rear ground-floor room has cornice and marble fireplace. Kitchen in north-west wing has wide fireplace with keystone and mantel shelf. Many windows have internal folding shutters. Dogleg staircase (possibly recessed) has column-on-vase balusters, shaped tread ends and panelled dado with pilasters. Upper rear room in south-east wing has good early C19 cornice and fireplace. All major rooms have cast-iron grates. Evidence for former passage at north-west flank. Fragments of old pargeting on original C17 rear wall. Side-purlin main roof.
