Villa, now flats. c1820-30, probably the house shown on Merrett's 1834 map. By RW and C Jearrad. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof, ridge and rear stacks and iron balconies. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and basement, 4 first-floor windows. First floor has 6/6 sashes, that to left in breakforward is tripartite between 2/2 sashes; to ground floor an off-centre solid porch with round-arched opening with keystone, frieze and cornice and flight of roll-edged steps within to 6-panel door. To left, breakforward has Doric pilasters and inner round-arched recess with 3/6 sash with radial glazing to head. To right are casements. All windows in tooled architraves on feet and plain reveals. Bracketed eaves and end stack. South (garden) facade (facing Lansdown Road) a 2-storey bow on basement to left plus 3 windows. 6/6 sashes, tall to ground floor; ground floor of bow has French windows 8-pane lattice frieze with divided overlights and margin-lights. Ground floor openings have cornices on corbes; first-floor windows on tooled sills with feet. To east facade: 5 windows, mostly blind, similarly with sills and cornices, those to ground-floor on embellished console brackets; all have tooled architraves. 6/6 sashes to first floor; two 3/6 sashes to ground floor with radial glazing to head. 6/6 sashes to basement. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: to south side a continuous Carron Company double-heart-and-anthemion motif balcony with stick balustrade to flight of steps to bow on scrolled brackets. Occupies a good corner site and forms a group with The Lansdown, Lansdown Road (qv). Part of the former Lansdown Estate, a notable example of suburban town planning.
