House, formerly farmhouse but perhaps originally a special purpose building such as a hunting lodge. Late C16 timber framed building, reclad and extended in early C18 and further extended & refenestrated in C19. Right hand part is late C16. Ground floor of red brick with some black brick headers, upper part tile hung. Tiled roof. 2 storeys and attics, originally L-shaped but made square in early C18. Front has gable, slightly projecting, with later bargeboards. 1:2 .1 late Victorian case- ments. Later tiled porch on wooden piers. Right side elevation has massive ragstone external chimney stack with moulded plinth tumbling in with late C16 brickwork and 2 diagonally placed flues. To the left of this is a probably late C16, 2-light wooden mullioned window with ovolo mouldings. Rear elevation has 1 storey C19 extension. Left hand part is an early C18 addition of lower elevation. Red brick in flemish bond with some vitrified headers. Tiled roof with end brick chimneystack. 2 storeys 2 windows. These are 3 light casements with cambered head linings to ground floor Original central doorcase now a window and original right hand window removed for small C19 extension. Left side has an attached 1 storey C18 dairy/ brewhouse or bakehouse in matching materials. This has one 3 light iron casement with pintle hinges. Catslide roof to rear. Wall plate has some exposed C18 framing with diagonal braces. C19 gabled extension to left of rear elevation, also brick and tile hung. Interior contains a fire brick open fireplace with deep oak bressumer with 1 inch chamfer and run out steps. 2 bread ovens were removed to right hand side. The ceiling beams in this room have 2 inch chamfers. 1st floor has a panelled room with late C16 plank and muntin panelling. Attic storey has a good C19 iron fire grate. Unusual double queen post roof with curved windbraces. C18 wing has through purlin roof. The original part of the building seems to have had very few rooms for a farmhouse and because of evidence of blocked in windows and weathered timbers does not seem to have been part of a larger structure. This taken together with the high quality framing suggests a special purpose building and there is a tradition that at some stage it was used as a hunting lodge to the nearby Boons Park.
