HUISH EPISCOPI CP HURD'S HILL (south side) ST4126 LANGPORT WESTOVER 10/71 Pound Cottage 17.4.59 II

Detached Cottage. C15 and later. Local lias stone cut and squared; thatched roof with stepped coped gable to east, hipped to west; brick chimney stacks. 'L' plan; two storeys; 4-bay front elevation, of which bay 1 projects. Timber casement windows of several types; no windows upper bays 3 and 4: bay 3 has wide boarded door in heavy frame; bay 4 represents an extension, now converted to garage. In rear south wall two 3-light timber frame windows with diagonal set mullions. Inside, the east wing has 2 equal-spaced crucks, smoke blackened, windbraces missing; it probably represents the remains of a medieval house; the main wing also carries a cruck derivative truss, traces of smoke hood; some wattle and daub partitioning in roof.
