Hall, 1763, of Flemish bond red brick with buff sandstone basement, painted stone dressings and hipped graded grey slate roof. 2 storeys plus basement and attics. 3 good symmetrical elevations: Entrance Front of 3 bays plus lower hip-roofed 1 bay wings has canted projecting centre with divided curved flight of 5 stone steps to entrance (door replaced, in keeping) with pediment on consoles; 6 recessed 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes under keystone lintels to basement; moulded plinth-cap at ground floor; 4 recessed 12-pane sashes in architraves to lower storey and 5 to upper storey; the wings have basement, 1 main storey and attic of 1 window; projecting bands at 1st floor and cill levels, moulded cornice carries brick parapet; 6 symmetrically placed chimneys, 2 on ridge and 2 at each end of main block. Left end has replaced door in architrave with 12-pane recessed sash in architrave to each side. Garden Front is flush, with 4 windows and replaced door to basement and 5 windows to each main storey, detailed as in entrance front; bands, cornice and parapet as at front. Venetian window with Tuscan pilasters to main storey of each wing. The stable wing (linked by walled yard at right end of house),much altered,of coursed red sandstone and red brick with graded grey slate roof, has 2 leaded windows 1 in opening with late C17 flush mullion, in south-east face. Interior: Basement has barrel-vaulted rooms. Lower main storey. Hall has colonnade of 4 Ionic wooden columns, marble mantel (probably late Georgian) and modillion plaster cornice; door to right leads to corridor and good back stair of oak of 2 flights with winders, with turned newels, 2 turned balusters per step and swept handrail; gun room (access from corridor) has cast iron grate with Georgian pine mantel, gun rack and cartridge cupboards. Behind hall (facing garden) are dining room left, and study right with panelled dados and reveals, and modillion plaster cornices, connected by opening with moulded, panelled case containing pair of folding doors, each of two 5-panel leaves. In left wing drawing room has coved ceiling. Open-well main stair of 3 flights (left of hall, through round archway of painted wood, classically moulded) has oak steps with open string and good carved brackets, curtail on square carved newel of oak and 3 renewed turned balusters per step. The stair-well has dado panelling, modillion cornice and good ornate plaster chandelier-rose. Upper storey. Moulded basket archway of wood from stair to broad central corridor: left bedroom to garden front (opposite stair) has C18 marble mantel, plaster cornice and basket archway (now blocked on bedroom side) to former dressing room, now bathroom. Central bedroom to entrance front has good overmantel of wood, containing mirror. Right bedroom to garden front has marble mantel, probably late Georgian, and simple moulded plaster cornice. The doors on both main storeys have 6 fielded panels with margin moulds. Back stair continues to attic storey. The 3 rooms to garden front and 2 to entrance front have painted doors, probably of oak, of 2 great panels. The trusses to the hipped roof are visible with massive timbers braced with heavy wrought-iron straps.
