Italianate country villa, built as a dower house for the Kelston Park (q.v.) estate. Designed 1835 by James Thomson, of London. Ashlar with a lead roof concealed behind a plain parapet. An asymmetrical villa, the dominant part of which is a 3 stage pylon tower to the right: pyramidal lead roof behind a projecting cornice on brackets, and with small square lights between the brackets; columns to the sides support elaborate urns; panelled and glazed door and later cast iron hood; recessed niche on first floor and circular window above. On the east side of the tower is a corbelled out circular stair turret. The main part of the house to the east has 2 storeys and a basement: 2-light round-headed window in plain surround on each floor; circular turret at east end with a single bay, 2 storey lean-to at the left. The garden elevation has a single, 3-light round headed window on the first floor and a projecting rear wing with round angle turrets and a 3-light bay window on a corbelled base. Interior: large open staircase hall. Thomson was employed by the Inigo-Jones or Neeld family on their main estate at Grittleton, Wiltshire (J. Orbach, personal information).
