Old police house; now house. Late C18, altered and extended in 1897 on
datestone; further C20 alteration. Dressed sandstone incorporating reused
herringbone-tooled sandstone to front and right return; coursed rubble
sandstone to rear; pantile roof and brick stack. 2-storey, 2-window front
with single-storey 3-bay cell block extension to left. 2-storey front has
renewed board door to right in chamfered opening. Windows are C20 top-
opening lights, that to ground floor left with a chamfered lintel. A stone
to right of the door is inscribed: VR DJ 1897 JK
Coped gables and left-of-centre stack. Cell block extension: renewed board
door to right of two 2-light small-pane casements. Plain stone lintels to
all openings. Coped gable to left and end left stack. Rear: in cell block
extension, 3 small blocked cell windows in flat surrounds. Right return:
6-pane fixed-light window in a chamfered opening with a roughly herringbone-
tooled lintel. Interior of cell block: 3 cells complete with nail-studded
doors and iron-barred inspection windows. Included for historical interest.
