House, sometime a P.H. C16 or earlier, altered in C17, early C19 additions and red brick front. A P.H. for some time up to 1913. Long, 2 storeys, timber frame, facing W. Rear wall part weatherboarded, part panelled fan-pargetting. S gable with internal gable chimney rebuilt in sandy red brick in early C19 and front wall faced in the same brickwork. Steep old red tile roof gabled at N but hipped to S. Large, single storey, lean-to, early C19 extension at N end of front, with slate roof, pargetting to W and red brick on S wall. Low slate roofed bakehouse at NE corner with pantiled S part. External N gable chimney. External lateral chimney on rear wall. 3-unit medieval plan with service end at N. Head mortice of diamond mullioned window and shutter groove on W wall in N bay. Shutter grooves for 2 windows in 3rd bay on E side. Structure altered and floored throughout in C17 with axial main beams. Exposed close timbering in partition at S (upper end) of hall, and C17 decorative plasterwork on ceiling in same bay. 2 large lozenge motifs of palmette border and rose with hearts in centre. Early C19 partition cuts across this ceiling and corridors and front extension probably at same time for use as a public house. 3 window W front with central door, Yorkshire sliding casements, 3- light on Ground floor and 2-light above. N extension has a blocked door and a window each side. Interior has C18 corner cupboard in room with decorative ceiling, old stable-type door into NE lean-to. Exposed on 1st floor are a straight tension brace in the rear wall and straight wind brace at N end: jowled posts of original N bay with tie beam removed: long curved braces to tie beam of next bay: and C18 lattice window at rear of N bay. S gable end of house extended by depth of chimney when rebuilt in C19. Part of picturesque group in Conservation Area.
