ASHBY PARVA SP58NW MAIN STREET 1323-0 3/8 (South side) 27/03/91 Manor Croft II

House. Early-C16, extended to left in 1779 and further altered in C19. Exposed timber-framing with red brick infilling, some herringbone. Box framed in large panels with some angle braces; mock framing to C18 part. Slate roof with end stack on gable parapet to left and tall red brick stack in centre. The house originally a storeyed hall range with cross wing. Eaves raised slightly over wall-plate to left (marking the division between the C16 and C18 builds) with gabled semi-dormer and moulded barge-boards. Gabled crosswing to right with decorated and moulded barge-boards. Two storeys; irregular four window front, wood framed casements to left, wood mullioned casements to right with diamond lattice glazing. Large wagon entrance to left with double boarded doors. Boarded door to left of it with C19 gabled hood on curved brackets over. C19 gabled porch on timber supports to left of extreme righthand window. Interior with much carpentry revealed; parlour (front room to wing) has ceiling beam with cavetto moulding with run-out stops. Beam to hall with simple chamfer. Queen-post roof; rear part of wing re-roofed with king-post (possibly marking a late-C17 rebuilding).
