II
Farmhouse. Late C16 and early C19. Coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings. Slate roof, hipped at one end and with two stone coped gables with moulded kneelers. One stone gable end stack and one external stack. T-plan. Two storeys. East elevation. Angle quoins. Central doorway with raised stone surround with keystone and projecting imposts. Semi-circular top with fanlight. Raised and fielded five panelled door. To the right, a glazing bar sash with stone surround and similar above. Projecting bay to the left with two similar, windows and a first floor stringcourse. South elevation with an external stack and to the right a blocked 3-light mullioned and transomed window to the first floor. To the left, a single light window with a transom and a 3-light mullioned and transomed window with similar above. To the left again,a blocked single light window and a blocked 3-light mullioned window at half height, and a similar blocked 3-light window above. Several of the south side windows with dripmoulds. Former site of a grange of Buxton Abbey and apparently earlier windows in the basement could be connected with this. Nat Gould (1857-1919) the novelist, lived here.
