House. C17 origins but mostly early C18. MATERIALS: roughcast front over limestone rubble with Ham Hill stone dressings, double Roman tile roof with stone coping, and rendered stacks to left gable end and to lateral stack to right-of-centre. PLAN: originally 1-unit plan, extended to the right with 2 units and two gable wings to the rear. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. All windows have hollow-moulded stone mullions, except for a C20 inserted 2-light window above the door; those to the ground-floor have label moulds. To the inside-right is a lateral stack, off-set above eaves-level, flanked by 3-light leaded casements; to the far left is a 2-light casement to the first-floor, and a 4-light casement below. The door, to the right of it, is set in an C18 Tuscan-style doorcase with flat hood and panelled reveals. The right return has a 2-light mullioned window in the centre of the gable, and 6/6-pane sashes to both floors, that to the ground floor being C20 with horns. The rear elevation has a C17 two-light mullioned window with label mould to first-floor right; a small pointed-arched window to the right-of-centre, both with C20 glazing; an C18 semi-circular arched stair window with margin panes to the centre; to the left are two gables with moulded string courses above hoodmoulds to C17 stone mullioned windows, 3-light to the left, 2-light to the right and a 2-light stair window between; one light to the right ground-floor window has late C17 leaded glass. INTERIOR: attic, though re-roofed, has original trusses with trenched purlins, one purlin to each side of the gabled wings, and two to the main block. The ridge is notch-in-apex. The room to the left has axial beams with run-out chamfers, open fireplace with oak lintel to the gable end, a newel stair in the corner to the left, which originally extended to the attic, now only to the first-floor, with an oval stairlight to the left return, and large stone flags to the floor. The central room has a quartered ceiling, the beams of which were plastered over c1820, and a corner fireplace with a limestone lintel; the beams have ogee-stopped chamfers. The room to the right also has a corner fireplace with C18 wooden surround. Both fireplaces to the right end are served by the lateral stack. The first-floor has mostly early C18 two-panel doors with rimlocks, some pine plank-and-muntin type walls with ovolo moulding, and some late C18 doors.
