Description

COCKFIELD CHURCH LANE 1. 5377 Church House (formerly listed as Church Cottage) TL 95 SW 32/256 23.1.58 II* 2. A timber-framed building partly of mediaeval origin plastered on the south side and with exposed timber-framing with brick nogging on the north side. Roof tiled, with a ridge chimney stack with 3 diagonal shafts. Two storeys. The upper storey on the north side is jettied on the whole front on exposed joists on curved brackets with moulded capitals and shafts. The east end is the older part of the house and is built with cruck construction. There is an original doorway in the west part (blocked) with 4-centred head with carved spandrels. Five window range of casements with leaded lights. Originally the church house, used for parish festivals and holidays. Graded for its historical interest and topographical value.
