SNAPE WITH THORPE SE 28 NE 4/94 Thorp Perrow Hall 22.8.66 - II* Large house. Early C18 encased c1800. Later work by John Foss, alterations by Walter Brierley. Rubble stone, ashlar and cement rendering. Graduated stone slate roof. 1, 2 and 3 storeys, 11 x 5 bays. Main front: central 9 bays of 3 storeys with 2-storey end bays breaking forward with left and right returns: 1:3:1 bays, central bays bowed. Sashes with glazing bars in ashlar surrounds. Cornice and parapet as front. Front: 9 central bays: double 6-panel doors with plain pilasters and moulded archivolt in later C19 1-storey Ionic portico, quatrestyle in antis. Above door, tripartite sash window with pilasters and columns supporting entablature with swagged frieze and triangular pediment. 1st- and 2nd- floor bands. Sashes with glazing bars to ground and 1st floors, 6-pane sashes to 2nd-floor all in ashlar architraves. End bays each have a Venetian window to ground floor in arched recess with fan-reeded head, the pillars with reeded capitals supporting entablature with animal heads and swags on frieze. On 1st floor a tripartite window with central sashes with glazing bars, pillars supporting frieze with paterae and cornice. Central 3-bay pediment with coat of arms. Cornice and parapet. Hipped roof with ridge stacks. Rear: Venetian stair window with pilasters frieze and cornice. Lower 1-storey wing to right with central round-headed board door. Stone surround of plinths, pilasters, consoles with paterae, reeded frieze, cornice and triangular pediment. Interior: ballroom at east of house has good plasterwork in the style of James Wyatt. Imperial staircase with wrought-iron balusters. Splat balusters to back stair to earlier house. Some bedrooms have panelling and fireplaces of c1715
