LITTLE LANGTON LANGTON PARK SE 39 NW 5/21 Langton Hall 6/21 II* House. c.1770, altered and enlarged 1850-60, restored to C18 proportions and refronted 1960. For Leonard Smelt, sub-governor to George IV. Red brick in Flemish bond. Wesmorland slate roofs. House connected by curved loggias to two wings at right angles to house. Main house: 2 storeys and basement, 3: 1:3 bays, outer bays canted. Sashes with glazing bars under flat brick arches. Central stone staircase with C19 railings up to C20 glazed door with overlight and side-lights. C20 Venetian window with brick arch over door. Dentilled brick course. C19 parapet with machicolated parapet. flipped roof with ridge stacks. Side elevations: each have a large bow window rising the full height of the house. Loggias: C20. Roman Doric columns on plinths support frieze and cornice. Gabled side wings: 2 storeys, 1 x 8 bays. 3-light casements. Pediments. Ridge stacks. Interior not inspected.
