Mansion of Mannerist Italianate character. 1871-73 by Cockerell the younger. Structure of concrete with stone and stucco and 'scraffito' decorative panels. Main rectangular block of 2 storeys with hipped slate roof. On south west and north west corners are 3 storey pyramid roofed pavilions, linked on ground floor by a colonnaded loggia. Above this is a recessed centre block with originally a balustraded roof terrace now covered by a C20 slate hung third storey. The main south east front has a narrow projecting centre bay and wider projecting corner blocks with rusticated pilasters. In the centre a projecting enclosed porch, with pedimented door case, piers with ball finials and semi- circular sides with curved plate glass windows. Over, a semi-dome with roof light oculus. Above the projecting centre is a raised attic, with open pediment and blank Diocletian arch motif with central circular window. The first floor has double hung sash windows with single central glazing bars. Ground floor has large mullioned and transomed windows with large plate glass glazing. Large stacks with a pair of Tuscan columns attached to a central brick block. Projecting from the north west corner is a 2 storey service wing, with similar decoration and 2 pedimented projections each with blind Diocletian arch motif. This has a block parapet and hipped slate roof. Quadrant walls with piers and urn finials project forward to enclose an entrance court.
