Large house. Mid C18 and early C19. Brick walls of blue headers with flush red dressings; plinth, quoins, rubbed flat arches, thin 1st floor band: parapet with stone coping, and cornice having a stone moulding above a stepped brick fascia, stone cills; the later part has a similar parapet and a brick dentilled cornice. Hipped tile roof. South front elevation of two phases, one a regular facade of three storeys four windows, with a lower east extension of two storeys three windows, then a single-storeyed service wing with a gable (or steep pediment) and a Venetian window set within a cambered-arched recess. Sashes. Doric wood porch of two plain columns two pilasters, and complete Roman Order with triglyphs, set on a stone-flagged podium, with a central flight of steps, now with C20 glazing; this porch is of the second phase, and within it there is a complete (original) doorcase, comprising an open pediment on console brackets, above thin panelled pilasters, with an arched opening containing a radiating fanlight, and a late C19 half-glazed door.

The rear (north) elevation is similar, with a deep arched staircase window, and a projecting C20 single-storeyed wing.

A mid C19 single-storeyed service wing is set back and extends at the east side.

Inside, the main feature is the original staircase. The house is associated with Admiral Hood.
