Farmhouse, now a private house. C16 or earlier open hall house; addition of lower S bay, insertion of floor and chimney, and rebuilding roof c.1600; N end early C18; brick front and ends mid C18. Timber frame on high brick sill roughcast, front and ends red brick chequered with blue headers. Steep old red tile roof with rear catslide over stair and outshut, and hip at N end. An unusual 2-bays open hall house with conversion c.1600 to a lobby-entry, internal chimney plan 3-cells house with stair tower and outshut under catslide to rear of stack. A long 2-storeys house facing E with plat-band and eaves cornice, and 1½-storeys S bay. 2 2-light casement windows to 1st floor and 4 to ground floor with small panes and segmental arches to ground floor. Large central chimney with 3 conjoined diagonal shafts and extra flue at S. Projecting S gable chimney and front lateral chimney to N end part now capped off below roof. Canted bay window on N end with 3-light casement window over. Interior has cambered tie-beams of large scantling, that of open truss on S face of chimney deeply chamfered and stopped with 3 peg holes for former large brace and peg near top for queen-post or strut of a side-purlin roof. Tie-beam dark coloured presumably from open fire, distinct from other timbers. Later truss on N face of chimney with straight wind-brace. Inserted chimney of narrow brick has wide back-to-back floor on chamfered axial beam in room to S of chimney with chamfered and stopped joists. Rougher joists on axial beam in S bay with new joints in possible stair position in SW corner. Present stair rises from main room in space taken from S bay. (RCHM Typescript).
