House, perhaps former warehouse of C17, adapted to house late C18. Brick, colourwashed pink, black glazed pantiles. 7 irregular bays, 2 storeys and attic, passage and staircase extension to rear, 2 storeyed rear extension of service wing in 3 builds to left. Painted stone plinth, dentil cornice renewed, moulded cornice to front return of gable end walls, shaped gables, axial stack between bays 1 and 2, internal stack at right gable end, shaft renewed. Flush sashes with glazing bars, all renewed, to bays 2,3,6 and 7 of ground floor and to 7 first floor bays. Doorway to bay 4: 4-panelled door flanked by fluted columns then margin lights, wide segmental fanlight above with glazing bars; doorcase with rounded pilasters having upper part fluted, entablature. Part glazed late C19 door to bay 1. Eaves platband to right gable, left gable rendered, platband near apex, attic window. Lower 2 storey extensions to rear at left in 3 builds of pebble flint under pantiles, some dressings of early brick, 2 bays with external stack now incorporated into lower single bay extension which has an additional bay. Rear: Raking roof dormer; continuous 2-storey outshut having first floor sash with glazing bars; semi-circular stair turret behind bay 3 in header bond, part renewed, lead domed roof, tall sash stair window renewed having semi-circular head and glazing bars. Interior: continuous 9 bay attic roof of 3 tiers, staggered purlins, middle tier braced, collars, curved oak principal rafters all reused, perhaps from dismantled ships, some pine rafters, some reused spars. Door to bay 4 asymmetrical to foyer, wide segmental arch at rear of foyer to rear passage and stair turret; cantilevered curved open-string stair, mahogany handrail with inset strip of light wood, ebony centre to wreath above fluted newel, rail ramped to landing. Groined vaulting to rear passage first floor. Late C18 fireplaces to north-east gable stack with duck's nest grates, that to ground floor with Prince of Wales feathers and motto, surround of Dutch tiles. Raised and fielded panels to first floor room left.
