BARTON TURF HALL ROAD TG 32 SE 3/13 Barton Hall 16.4.55 G.V. II

Country House. 1742, remodelled late C19 (south front) and 1935 (east front). Brick, partly plastered to imitate ashlar. Roofs of plain tiles and pantiles. East facade of 2 storeys and dormer attic in 3 bays. Central bay wider and broken forward beneath pediment. Panelled double doors below 6-vaned fanlight within Roman Doric door surround consisting of 2 pilasters and 2 engaged columns. Intercolumnation pierced with one rounded light right and left. Columns and pilasters support dentiled entablature extending over entire bay, this central bay further emphasised by rusticated quoining. One sash window with glazing bars to first floor. Side bays lit through one sash each floor, all with glazing bars and below gauged skewback arches. String course at first floor. Console eaves cornice and pediment. In tympanum of pediment one semi-circular light with keystone. Hipped roof and 2 gabled dormers with sash windows, glazing bars intact. 2 symmetrically placed ridge stacks. South facade of 2 storeys and dormer attic in 6 bays with additional full height central canted bay. Sashes with glazing bars below gauged skewback arches. String course at first floor. Eaves cornice continues from east facade. Hipped roof-with 4 gabled dormers as before and 2 further ridge stacks. West facade of 2 storeys in 7 bays, the centre 3 bays broken forward under pediment. Sash windows with glazing bars below gauged skewback arches. String course and eaves cornice continues from south front. Hipped roof with 2 symmetrical stacks. Interior. Square entrance hall leading to passage-via glazed doors. Staircase at end : dog leg with square newel posts, ramped handrail and iron twist balusters.
