House. Early C19, incorporating remains of C17 and C18 houses. Gault brick in Flemish bond, roofed with slate. Square plan with C19 2-storey extensions to left and rear. 2 internal stacks. 3 storeys. 6-window range of sashes with glazing bars in gauged cambered arches. Low-pitched hipped roofs with long projecting eaves. Early C18 kitchen and brewhouse now incorporated in main house. Original staircase with turned balusters and moulded handrail. Early C19 detailing throughout, including fire surrounds and segmental panelled doors. Colne Place was the childhood home of Thomas Fowell Buxton from 1786 to 1809, colleague and successor to William Wilberforce in the campaign for the abolition of slavery. (Wherein I Dwell, Earls Colne WEA, 1983, 65).
