Description

STOKE HOLY CROSS SHOTESHAM ROAD TG 20 SW (south side) 4/80 Gostleyns II House, once used as orphanage. Mid C16, additions C17, altered C18, restored and altered 1948. Timber framed with whitewashed brick and flint infill and plain tile roof. 2 storeys and dormer attic, the south-east side in irregular bays. C20 door to left with C20 casement to left of this. To right of door 3 C18 2 or 3-light casements and a further C20 window. 5 C18 casements to first floor, that to left renewed. Gabled roof with one sloping dormer. Rebuilt ridge stack right of centre. External flue to south gable serving 1948 one storey gabled extension. North gable has a 3-light late C18 ground floor casement. To first floor a 4-light C17 ovolo moulded mullioned window and a 3-light similar window lights attic. North-west side is of 2 storeys. C16 range is towards the south and has a jettied first floor. Under jetty a 6-light hollow moulded mullioned window with leaded glass. Remainder of fenestration C18 or renewed in C20. Brick pier to north supports jetty. Interior. Lounge and dining room fireplaces rebuilt retaining original bressumers. Bridging beams plain in lounge, but with sunk quadrant mouldings and moulded bar and tongue stopped in dining room. Timber studwork remains to first floor. C18 roof of tie beams, 2 tiers staggered butt purlins and collars.
