6/17 The Old Rectory

Rectory, now house. Second half C15, clad and raised in early C18, with late C19 and some late C20 alterations. Timber-frame clad in painted brick with tile roof. H-plan, hall range aligned east/west with two-bay hall to east, two-bay service to west; west cross-wing a later addition, east cross-wing at upper end is also C15. Garden front (south): the two gabled cross-wings project slightly, that to left has a stone coped verge and a blind window to the attic, bands to ground floor; right-hand wing has two bands and main range one to ground floor; 1 + 7 + 1 windows: 2-light casements to cross-wings, others are timber cross-windows (there is a further narrow window at each end of the main range, which is blocked); ground floor similar except for entrance in place of the window to right of centre and French casements to cross-wings. Main entrance in north front has a C19 gabled porch. Lateral stack to east cross-wing is of brick on a stone plinth with two stumps of 6-point star-plan shafts. Interior: exposed framing visible in most rooms of east cross-wing, which also has a C18 staircase with turned balusters.
