Description

POLLINGTON WEST END SE 61 NW (west side, off) 8/23 Pollington Hall 14.2.67 GV II Farmhouse. Mid C18. Brown brick in English bond; ashlar steps and entrance porch. Yorkshire slate roof. Double-depth plan, with 2-room central entrance-hall south front, staircase to rear. 3 storeys, 5 bays; symmetrical. Tall plinth. Flight of 5 steps flanked by ashlar walls ramped-up from curved ends. C20 6-fielded-panel door in C20 architrave beneath original Gothick overlight in beaded ashlar surround with scrolled consoles carrying moulded pediment. C20 12-pane sashes to left, 4-pane sashes to right, in original wooden architraves and reveals with stucco sills and painted rubbed-brick flat arches. Similar first-floor 4-pane sashes. C20 pivoted casements to second floor in similar original surrounds. Stepped and dentilled brick eaves cornice. Stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers. End stacks. Interior. Original features include: moulded plaster cornice to entrance hall, pilastered round-arched opening to stairhall; 2-flight return staircase with ramped corniced handrail, fluted column newel and column-on-vase balusters with square knops, round-headed stair window with pilastered surround; dentilled plaster cornice to ground floor right; dining room, ground floor left, with modillioned plaster cornice, moulded dado rail and good ashlar chimney-piece with pilasters, raised tablet to frieze and scrolled consoles carrying corniced mantelshelf, flanked by pair of cupboards with 6-fielded-panel doors in architraves; vaulted cellars. Interior not fully investigated.
