NZ 50 SW LITTLE BUSBY 10/159 Busby Hall 5/5/52 II* Country house, said to have been built after a fire of 1764 but looks earlier in style. L-plan; classical style. Finely-coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone with dressings. Graduated Lakeland slate roof with lead ridge and stone stacks. 2 storeys, 5 bays. Round-arched recess in slightly-projecting centre bay holds doorway in Venetian form: half-glazed door with cornice head and radial fanlight; round-arched Y-traceried 6-pane sidelights, all up 2 steps. 12-pane sash above in architrave with feet. At either side 12-pane sashes in architraves. Coved, moulded eaves cornice, tall parapet with cornice and blocking course. Hipped roof with 2 ridge stacks. Right return has 3 windows above and 2 blank panels below in architraves. Rear elevation shows long casements and a 6-panel double door, with interlaced overlight: all of earlier C19 type. 4-bay left return with Venetian window. Interior: good woodwork throughout including 6-panel doors in architraves, enriched skirtings and window shutters, varied mouldings. Ornamental cornices; 2-colour marble fireplace in saloon. Big entrance hall with panelled dado; branching staircase behind has 2 turned balusters to a tread with gadrooned urns and square knops.
