SE 56 SW HUBY NEW PARKS 5/78 New Parks II
House, reputed former hunting lodge of James I. C17 long, narrow red brick in garden wall bond. Pantile and plain tile roofs, stone coping and kneelers, raised verges to garden front. Central ridge chimney of 4 diagonally placed stacks to front range. Massive chimney with off-sets to rear with rebuilt upper part. Two storeys. Front range (to garden) with 2-storey gabled porch and lower triple-gabled wing to rear. Plinth. Garden front: three 1st floor windows and single bay porch off-centre. All openings altered. C19 entrance in porch with panelled door under oblong fanlight with panelled reveals and soffit in plain wooden doorcase. Much patching of brickwork. C20 casements. Remains of probable fire window to right. Present entrance by C20 porch to rear. Interior: good closed-string staircase, the well now blocked. Stout turned balusters, moulded handrail and square newel pairs with strapwork carving surmounted by urns carved with shields and panelling. Some decorative moulded plasterwork. Fine oak door surround (now blocked) with flanking terms, one male and one female on pedestals with strapwork and lozenges, supporting an entablature with foliate scrolls and lozenges. The soffit and reveals are carved with foliage and reversed shields. Carved 'overdoor' has basket of flowers and cockerel motifs.
