House. C17 with extensive mid C20 restoration. Coursed squared pink/grey gritstone, graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Quoins. The central glazed double doors, 5 and 2-light mullioned windows on the south side are all C20. Shaped kneelers, gable copings. Rear (to road): C20 door right; recessed chamfered mullion windows of 3 lights to left, ground and first floors, and right, first floor. A central mullion and transom window lights the stairs. A projecting single-storey bay to left has a large gable stack and C20 openings. Interior not inspected at resurvey but the previous list description (1962) records that the panelling was removed some years ago. The house is said to have been the home of Captain John Levens who settled there after the Civil War. He became a Quaker and died in 1688, being buried in the orchard or stackyard; 2 of his children were also buried there. H Speight, Upper Nidderdale, 1906, p 135.
