Country house, now a school. Early C19 with mid-late C19 additions and C20 alterations. Ashlar, grey slate roof. 2 storeys plus attic storey, 5 x 5 bay main block; the central 3 bays project slightly and the central bay is bowed to full height. To left, a single-storey 5 x 4-bay ballroom, billiard room and smoking room range, added in 1880. Main block: central glazed door under an added porte cochere with 3 round keyed arches. Plate- glass sash windows throughout; those to bays 2 and 4 are in round-headed recesses with large voussoirs and impost bands; the outer windows have rectangular recesses above. At first-floor and attic levels the bowed central bay has a tripartite window, the lower window altered to a door; the windows of the 3 central bays are in architraves. Projecting sill bands to all floors. A deep moulded cornice separates the first and the attic storeys. Deep cornice and blocking course. Tall corniced stacks flank central bay; further large stacks towards the rear, left and right. Ballroom has pilastered facade with cornice and parapets, 5 French doors to front facade. Hipped roof. Interior. The large entrance hall has a hooded fireplace to left in C19 medieval style; ceiling cornice with heraldic emblems. The inner hall has a massive cantilevered stone staircase of 4 straight flights rising to the top storey and a wrought-iron balustrade with scroll decoration and ramped handrail. The stairwell ceilings have moulded plasterwork. A plain service stair remains behind the main staircase.
