Public house in C19; now private house. Original building of 1678; raised, altered and extended c.1850. Original house for Peter Braithwaite. Rubble sandstone, raised in tooled sandstone; pantile roof. Two low storeys with irregular fenestration and two storey, one bay extension at right. C19 six-panel door in extension, and left-of-centre board door beneath timber lintel in original front. Sixteen-pane sash beneath tooled lintel left of board door, and shuttered two-pane fixed light further left. Right of board door is a squat eight-pane fixed light. Two square eight-pane sashes in first floor and flat-roofed half dormer at left end. Coped gables and block kneelers. End and left-of-centre stacks.
Rear: three-light chamfered mullioned window survives. Datestone relief carved: '1678/P B W T' reset in first floor.
Interior: not inspected. Corbelled stone fireplace and stone heck bench said to survive.
