A Grade I Listed Building in Rattery, Devon

  • St Mary: church of cruciform design originally c13 with c15 additions

  • St Mary: c13 two stage tapering west tower, spire added c15; battlements set on corbel table; 1803 slate sundial over porch

  • St Mary: view from the south east; transepts added c13, the Lady chapel added c15

  • St Mary: large three-light Perpendicular west window probably inserted late c14; doorway with two-centred arch, the ancient door recently restored

  • St Mary: nave and chancel in one with five-light c15 Perpendicular east window; c15 wagon roof with bosses

  • St Mary: arcades on octagonal granite piers with double chamfered arches

  • St Mary: interior wall of chancel decorated with sgraffiti, 1870, of simple geometric patterns & floral motifs
