West Gate Park
II
Pair of gate piers; early C19; cast iron. Square openwork piers with straight
sides surmounted by a cornice with freestanding paterae above. The sides are
formed of circular patterns in the Greek Taste. Bearers for gate hinges remain,
but the gates were removed during the World War II. This was the principal entrance
to the Thorold mansion house of Syston Park. Included for Group Value Only.
