ST CLEW CROW'S NEST SX 26 NE 11/77 The Crow's Nest 14.5.86 II House, now inn. Mid C17, with alterations and additions of C19 and C20. Rendered stone rubble, partly slate-hung. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends; gable end stack removed to right, gable end stack to left with cornice and shaped top. Plan: 2-room plan, with central entrance to passage, partition walls removed at ground floor. Parlour to left heated by gable end stack and kitchen to right, heated by gable end stack with oven. Outshut to rear right in 2 builds, one with stack. Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 5-window front; ground floor has central C20 gabled porch, inner doorway in granite, with rounded head, chamferd, with C20 door. 2-light C20 casement to right. Two C19 16-pane sashes to left. First floor has 2 similar 16-pane sashes to left; above the porch and to right, 2 C20 lights, and end right 16- pane sash. Right end blind. Left end slate-hung at upper level, with external stack. To rear, a central single storey outshut with stack to side; what appears to be a rear lateral stack behind the outshut. Second lower outshut to left with corrugated asbestos roof. Interior: Ground floor parlour has fireplace with rubble jambs and roughly chamfered timber lintel. Ceiling joists of C19. Kitchen has fireplace with plain flat granite lintel and jambs, blocked granite oven to rear. Stone shelves to side. Roof space not fully accessible; the feet of the principal rafters are visible at first floor, all boxed except one, which is chamfered.
