Capstan (capstan winch for hauling fishing boats up the beach). Circa mid-late C19 possibly a replacement or remodelling of an older structure. Coursed granite rubble walls with some dressed granite including a reused C17 chamfered stone as a bearing stone. Predominantly wooden capstan with iron fastening top bearing is in a long beam carried on two granite piers. These piers are all that remain of what must have been more complete enclosure walls. The capstan itself is in good condition and complete. The capstan was operated by eight men.
