Large house. 1877 probably designed by John-Waige. Brick and stucco. Slate hipped roofs. Italianate style. 2 storey moulded plinths, first floor band and bracketted entablature. Entrance front has central 2 storey porch with fluted Doric door surround, surmounted by a pediment, a pair of double doors with overlight. Above a single cross window. To the left a square bay with 4 plain sashes, topped by a balustrade and above 2 plain sashes in moulded surrounds. To the right a canted bay with 4 plain sashes topped by a balustrade and above a pair of plain sashes in a moulded surround topped by a large segmental pediment, with an open pediment above. Garden front, 8 bays with an off-centre square bay with 3 plain sashes, to the left 2 plain sashes, a projecting rusticated bay, and a single plain sash beyond, all with moulded surrounds. To the right 2 similar sashes, and beyond a projecting wing with a bow window with 3 cross casements. Above a segment headed sash, with 3 similar sashes to the right and 2 to the left, beyond 2 more sashes in projecting portion. Interior has an extremely impressive staircase hall with elaborate plaster coving and highly decorated panelled ceiling with stained glass. The stair has a single flight and double flight remains and a gallery on 3 sides above all with bulbous balustrades and circular newels surrounded by brass lamps. The walls have dado panelling with good door surrounds and fine doors. All the main reception rooms on the ground floor have fine quality detailing, with ornate plaster ceilings dado panelling, fire surrounds and overmantles. The dining room has a particularly fine fireplace with a fluted pilaster overmantle, and also pilasters either-side of the main bay windows, plus folding doors which connect with the drawing room. The main bathroom has fine tiles and an unusual shower unit.
