Hotel now offices. Late C18 with C19 alterations and additions. Pinkish- orange brick with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof. Central hallway plan. 3 storeys, 3 bays. Plinth. Central entrance, 4-panel, double doors under oblong fanlight between 4-pane sash margin lights and pilasters under Tuscan portico with frieze and cornice surmounted by C20 wrought-iron emblem of Samuel Smith's brewery, Outer bays are full-height, canted bays, those to ground and first floor have 16-pane centre sashes with 12-pane sashes to sides. First floor centre bay, a 12-pane sash in flush wood architrave. Second floor: outer bays have 8-pane sashes between 6-pane sashes to canted bays. 6-pane sash in flush wood architrave to centre bay. All windows under flat arches of gauged brick and with continuous cill bands. Double dentil cornice. End stacks. Interior: C18 open-well staircase with turned balusters and ramped handrail. Ground floor room to left has elaborate C19 cornice with acanthus, swags and egg and dart moulding; further floriate band around ceiling and central oval panel adorned with musical instruments, urns, fruits anad floriate scrolls; also a window surround of fluted Corninthian pilasters supporting frieze decorated with acanthus and anthemion motifs. Room to right has less elaborate C19 frieze witn acanthus ornament and similar moulding around window now partly obscured by double glazing.
