EAST KNOYLE MILTON ST 83 SE (south side) 8/41 Strongs Cottage GV II Detached cottage. Datestone over door: Edward Strong/1734 with incised scrolled decoration below. Coursed rubble stone, thatched roof with gable end brick stacks. Two-storey, 2-window front. Four-panelled sham door in C20 gabled porch to left of centre, 2- light casement to left and 6-pane fixed and 2-light casement to right. First floor has two 2-light casements. English bond brick extension attached to left has tiled roof and casements. Rear has French windows, 2-light casement to ground floor, 2-light casement to first. Interior has open fireplace with lintel on stone jambs, planked door, chamfered beams. This may have been the home of Edward Strong junior, the mason son of Sir Christopher Wren's senior mason, Edward Strong senior who died 1724. (K. Downes, Sir Christopher Wren, 1982)
