Description


WALTON-IN-GORDANO C.P. WALTON STREET (north east side) ST 47 SW 3/122 Old Rectory House - II Rectory, now house. C17 origin (key dated 1696) mid C19 and early C19 alterations, some C20 alterations. Sandstone rubble, front rendered and lined out, double Roman tiled roof with brick ridge and gable stack to right, some pantiles. Former through passage plan, extended to right and left, ridge stack at former gable end to left. 2 storeys and 6 bays, 3 bays to right have sashes in exposed boxes with segmental heads, smaller at ground floor left, off-centre gabled porch with 1/2-glazed door; to left of door, similar sash at ground floor and 8-pane sash above, bay added to left has ground and first floor 2-light casement of different sizes. Right return has single storey pantiled lean-to, door with segmental head and small single light to side, former rear door has timber lintel and C20 window inserted. Left return has 4-pane light at ground floor left, 2-light casement with timber lintel at first floor left, line of roof alteration in brick at eaves to right, stack rising from catslide to left. Rear has 4-pane sash at upper level to left lighting stair, small door beneath, blocked ground floor window to right and C20 plate-glass window under eaves; single storey addition to rear right, extending pitch of main roof, has 2 windows and door, all C20, roof light and long C20 dormer. Interior: originally 2-room plan with through passage, fireplace at former gable end to left has wide chamfered lintel and stone jambs, blocked window to rear has C18 cupboard with shaped shelves, screen with raised fillets and ventilation holes, formerly to right of passage, now to left of entrance; former front passage door now recess in wall, not visible from outside, former rear passage door has walls curved to sides, now leading into rear addition; room to far right has replacement winder stair in cupboard to rear, end room to left also has replacement winder stair.
