River suspension bridge. 1831-36, by William Tierney Clark, restored 1956-7. The iron chains are carried by a pair of stone Doric triumphal arches on rusticated piers. The iron rails to the wooden footways have contemporary "Palm Tree" heads. Clark was a pupil of Telford and assistant to Rennie. He designed bridges also at Hammersmith and Budapest, the former now destroyed. The restoration in 1956-7 was substantial, so that much of the ironwork and chains are new. The appearance of the bridge, however, remains unchanged. Part of the bridge is included in the Statutory List as 1/60 for the former Urban District of Marlow, now part of Wycombe District in the County of Buckinghamshire.
