SP 9436-9536 ASPLEY GUISE CHURCH STREET Chain House (formerly listed as 5/6 House North of Anchor Public House 23.1.61 known as Chain Cottage) GV II House. Later C18, probably refronting of earlier building. Colourwashed rendered exterior, possibly over some timber framing. Hipped clay tile roof. L-plan. 2 storeys. Variety of sash windows with glazing bars, 3 to ground floor, 5 to first floor. Those to RH room are C19 tripartite sashes. First floor window above door also C19. Others are earlier, small-paned, of broader proportions, and have moulded frames. Doorway between 2 RH bays has 6-moulded panel door surmounted by rectangular fanlight with semi-circular ornamental ironwork. Slender reeded half-columns support simple entablature and flat hood. Carriageway to LH with moulded timber surround. Timber dentil cornice to eaves.
