LATCHINGDON RECTORY ROAD TQ 89 NE (west side) 5/37 Snoreham Hall Farmhouse II
House. Circa 1570, altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Main range facing N of 2 long bays and one short (middle) bay, with internal stack in short bay, now truncated below roof level. C19 internal stack in left bay. C20 external stack to front. 2-bay crosswing to right, with external stack, c.1600, to right of it. C20 single-storey lean-to extensions to front, right and rear. 2 storeys with attics. Scattered C20 fenestration. Half-glazed door at front of large C20 lean-to porch. Jowled posts with steps at half-height, chamfered with step stops. Close studding, exposed internally in gable of crosswing. Chamfered axial and transverse beams with step stops, joists plastered to the soffits. Early C17 attic floor in crosswing, with chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops. Large wood-burning hearth in middle bay of main range, blocked. Large wood-burning hearth in crosswing, reduced for C20 grate. Roof of main range almost wholly rebuilt in C19. Roof of rear bay of crosswing rebuilt in C19, the remainder apparently of original clasped purlin construction. Interior much altered by inserted partitions and some imitation framing, but the original frame is largely intact.
