Farmhouse. Circa 1830. Painted slate rubble, originally stuccoed. Welsh slate hipped roof with lead rolls to hips and moulded cast iron eaves gutter with lions masks to the joints. Rendered chimney stacks. Plan: Principal room on either side of entrance stair hall; service rooms behind, two rooms deep. The rear rooms may have been outbuildings but they are now incorporated into domestic use. Exterior: Two storeys. East garden front: 3 bays, ground floor central round-headed doorway with plastered reveals, semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars and six-panel door, top panels glazed. Ground floor left and right tripartite sashes, centre light 12 panes, side lights 4 panes. First floor 3 12-pane sashes, centre sash has horns. All windows have flat brick arches. Across front a slate roof verandah, with hipped ends, supported on this iron posts and with moulded cast iron gutter. South front facing farmyard: regular widely spaced 4-window range of 16-pane sashes and similar slate roof verandah across entire front supported on thin iron posts of cross section. North elevation has projecting hipped roof end bays with stack on left hand bay and sash on both floors of right hand bay. Two sash windows in recessed centre; ground floor has tripartite sashes. C20 double doors to centre right. The rear, west elevation has central ground floor doorway and external stone stairs to loft door above. Interior: Most of the original joinery is intact including panelled doors, architraves, cupboards and window shutters etc and many of the original chimneypieces with their cast iron grates. The two front rooms have moulded ceiling cornices. Central stair hall has stone flag floor and nice open string stairs with stick balusters and wreathed handrail ramped up to a column newel. The rear service rooms to north east have had some internal partitions removed to form entrance hall for new side entrance. Rear kitchen has large open fireplace with chamfered timber lintel. The house was illustrated on tins of Tucker's and Sons Toffees of Totnes. One of these labels has been framed and hangs inside the house.
