Farmhouse. Probably C16 origins, rearranged in late C17. Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone rubble or cob stacks topped with C20 brick; concrete interlocking tile roof (formerly thatch). Altered 3-room-and-through-passage plan house facing south with former inner room (now kitchen) at right (east) end. Rear of passage is blocked by late C17 stair and at same time former service end room was upgraded. Former inner room has projecting rear lateral stack and former service end room has rear lateral stack. Rear courtyard is enclosed by an outshot to rear of former inner room, a gable-ended C19 cartshed at right angles to rear of former service end room, and a cob and rubble wall between the two. Main house is 2 storeys. Regular 7-window front of mostly C19 but with some C20 replacement casements with glazing bars. One of first floor windows is blind. Front passage doorway contains a C19 6-panel door and there is a secondary plank door at left end. Under the eaves a length of soffit-chamfered oak wall plate shows. Roof is gable-ended. On rear wall a first floor C17 oak 3-light window-frame with chamfered mullions lights the stair head and at inner room end at first floor level is a late C17 oak 2-light window-frame with a flat-faced mullion with an internal head moulding. Interior shows mostly C19 and C20 plaster and joinery but the original layout is preserved and therefore early features are probably hidden. The kitchen (former inner room) has a late C17 soffit-chamfered and straight cut-stopped crossbeam. The fireplace here is blocked. The hall fireplace is also blocked and the crossbeam is boxed in. The inner room apparently has no crossbeam. The fireplace here is exposed. It is late C17 with a curving pentan and a reused soffit-chamfered and late step-stopped oak lintel. The roof is not accessible; principal rafters do not show. The rear courtyard wall and outbuildings form a group with the farmhouse.
