House, now residential home; formerly vicarage to Church of St Mark. c1860-70. Probably designed by John Middleton, for Revd Griffiths. Coursed and hammer-dressed limestone with freestone dressings. Steeply pitched plain tile roof with stone coped gable ends. Ashlar axial and gable end stacks with cornices. PLAN: double-depth with principal front rooms either side of central entrance hall, leading to central stair well and with service rooms to rear right. High Victorian Gothic style. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; asymmetrical 4-window gabled front. Left gable end has canted bay window on ground floor. Large gabled half dormer off-centre and gabled porch below to right of centre. Left hand (south-east) return: 2 similar half dormers and projecting gable to left with canted bay on ground floor, all windows on this elevation with gable to right of centre and windows on right with cusped lights. All windows have stone mullions and transoms. INTERIOR: noted as including original main stairs with stop-chamfered newels with brattished finials and arcaded balusters. Room to left of entrance hall has moulded ceiling beams on corbels and chimneypiece with colonnettes. HISTORICAL NOTE: Granleys was built for Revd Griffiths, vicar (from 1860-66) of the Church of St Mark, Church Road (qv) (by John Middleton). Forms a group with The Knowle (qv).
