SNAITH AND COWICK HIGH STREET SE 6422 (south side) Snaith 12/66 Nos 7 and 9 GV II Pair of houses. Mid C18 with later alterations, including raising of roof and insertion of shop window to No 9 in C19, and blocking of former shop window to No 7 in c1960. Orange-brown brick with red brick dressings. Welsh slate roof. Double-depth plan: 3 rooms with through-passage to left of centre and pair of later wings to rear. 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Quoins. No 9, to right: 2 stone steps to C19 panelled door and overlight in segmental-headed red brick surround, with 3-light shop window to right in pilastered surround with plain frieze, cornice and hood; 12-pane flush sash to left in original red brick surround with rubbed-brick flat arch. Panelled door to passage with painted ashlar lintel and jamb-stones. No 7, to left: blocked shop front with door and window beneath timber lintel. First floor: two 12-pane flush sashes to No 9 and single 2-pane flush sash to No 7 in original red brick surrounds with C19 brick flat arches and raised eaves. Axial stack and end stack to left with cogged brick cornices; rebuilt stack to right. Interior: No 9 contains C19 staircase with plain balusters; not fully investigated. Rear wings and adjoining ranges are not of special interest.
