House. Early C16 open hall house, floors and central chimney inserted in later Cl7 or early C18 ('FR 1716' painted on front dormer), fireplace altered and oven and W gable chimney added late C18 or early C19, flat roofed porches 1958, rear wing 1966. Timber frame on plastered brick sill, roughcast with oval pargetting motif over door. Pale buff brick and white painted timberpergola to front porches. Steep red tile half hipped roof. Central chimney plastered, red brick external W gable chimney. A 3-cell house, facing S. Open hall of unequal bays, and 2 end bays, all without evidence of upper floors. Late Cl7 central chimney built in crosspassage creating lobby entry plan. Axial chamferred beams (with ogee stops in hall) carry inserted floor. Winding stair formerly in W room unheated up to late C18. C20 stair formed at NE corner next new rear wing, exposing framing. 3 windows front with gabled 2-light dormer to chamber over hall (painted date in gable). 3-light casement windows to ends but larger C20 sliding window in middle to right of flat roofed porch with pergola linked to small flat roofed extension to E end, all in buff brick. Plastered, flat roofed 1st floor extension at rear NE on piers on steep hillside. Interior has open fireplace in hall with iron door to oven in N jamb, exposed timbers with jowled posts, cambered tie-beam to open truss of hall, clasped-purl in roof with curved wind-braces, edge-halved scarf joint with bridled butts in rear wallplate to larger hall bay, and face-halved scarf joint with sallied butts in rear wallplate near E end.
