Description

SU 6208 SOUTHWICK & WIDLEY BRIDGE STREET 17/4 Oak Lodge II House. A building of three phases: substantial mid C18 block, with early C19 alterations, and late C19 alterations and service wing. Walls of brickwork in Flemish bond with blue headers, rubbed flat arches, some Flemish Garden Wall bond, and stretcher bond of the last phase. Hipped tile roof to the main part, lower flatter hipped slate roof to the service wing, gabled slate roof above the porch. The original west front was symmetrical of two storeys and attic, three windows: one ground-floor sash at the north side. The original porch has been widened and raised to an upper floor, with a separate roof with a gablet above on upper sash: most of this facade is masked by a high brick wall. The south (garden) elevation has been altered by the addition (early C19) of a half octagonal full-height bay at the west side, of three sash windows, and a mid C19 shallow rectangular full-height bay containing triple lights; set back at the east side is the plain service wing with a triple casement above two sashes. The north elevation has an original service wing projecting at the east side, with double hipped roofing: at the west side there is an early C19 gabled projection with sashes.
