PAINSWICK EDGE ROAD SO 8609/8709 (off south side) 8/70 Dry Knapps House (formerly listed as Dry 21.10.55 Knapp cottage) II Detached house. Early C17. Limestone ashlar front, coursed and squared stone elsewhere, stone slate roof to coped gables left and back; gable stacks to moulded cappings. L-plan, with large wing back right, large external gable stack to left. Two storeys and attic, 3 windows; at ground and first floors ovolo-mould 2-light with transom, grouped under continuous stopped hoodmould at each level; central C20 door and porch. Return left has 1-light over 2-light casements. To roof are 3 C19 gabled 2-light casement dormers. Interior modified, retains heavy A-frame roof with short standards tied to feet of principals; large room left of entry, blocked early fireplace to right. An interesting structure, set back and partly concealed by later buildings.
